A night with saxophone and chamber orchestra An evening full of melancholy, passion and Dutch lyricism: The newly established chamber orchestra of Tilburg under direction of Amin Ebrahimi and with soloist Hannah Koob on saxophone, will play a program with music of Johann Sebastian Bach and the two Dutch composers Andreas van Zoelen & Henk Badings. The history of the saxophone, which was named after its inventor Adolphe Sax, started less than 200 years ago. The first compositions arise in the 19th century, when the baroque era was long gone. The saxophone is an instrument with many options, and arranging and playing baroque works is one of many ways to hear the different facets of this instrument. During this night youre going to listen to the church cantata ‘Ich ruf zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ. In the Netherlands there is a very rich culture of classical saxophone, from which we want to share two beautiful compositions with you: Henk Badings ‘La Malinconia in a new arrangement for saxophone and chamber orchestra and Andreas van Zoelens ‘Halvdager. The composer writes: 'Halvdager' is Swedish for twilight. This intermezzo is also inspired by the beautiful moment of the day when the light seems to shift every second. At the same time, this transition hides something ominous. In practical terms this brief work will combine the lyricism of the various registers and the unique timbre of the tenor saxophone with the expanded colour capabilities of the string orchestra. We are looking forward seeing you at this concert with 3 unique works that cannot often be heard.
